Evanish 4

I'm liking this one with more natural and textural elements creeping back in.

Evanish 3

Another one possibly not as successful just a bit of wispy smoke.

Evanish 2

Here's another. I am really enjoying these studies it's only a shame that I have used reference photos from the internet. I wanted something that was emotive for this kind of image but didn't have my own. The two main reasons I'm enjoying these studies is the speed and the way the black and white strips away all the unnecessary distiractions like colour and just gets back to the tonal basics. A lot of this links back to the "small pieces of card" paintings in that I want the image to emerge, or in this case disappear/melt into the background. I hope to take this further and develop the idea and maybe then bring in natural elements. Who knows?

Gave up with painting for a bit and went even further back to basics with cahrcoal.  Sadly used an image off the internet as the reference but quite liked the way it went and it's so much quicker!

Another "small piece of card"

Another go at Alla Prima and I'm still not getting it right. Dark tones tend to be transparent and I can't seem to blend it right without making like an underpainting. In the end it turns out like my normal painting style which is what I'm trying to get away from. Originally I intended to do a series of four and at the moment I intend to continue. It was supposed to be much looser  and with much less detail.  Thankfully following a photo session with a model who couldn't sit still I have lots of photos to work from.
Model Katy Card - what a delight.

Colour differences is down to the ipad camera.
